Promising galloper Syreon should give trainer Joseph Pride a pleasant finish to the 2009-10 season by winning at Rosehill this weekend.. Formerly trained by Anne-Marie Ruttley, Syreon has had two barrier trials back from a spell and Pride is looking forward to seeing the galloper in action again. "He is a classy horse who should run well," Pride told Winning Post. Syreon is owned by trucking magnate Bob Ruttley and the six-year-old has been lightly raced, with just 14 starts for four wins and as many placings. "The horse has plenty of potential. He has been out of action for a while but he has been working great and has trialled well," said Pride. Syreon hasn’t raced since failing behind Walking Or Dancing at Newcastle in March. "He actually ran great there and has had a good spell since," the trainer said. Corey Brown will take the ride aboard Syreon and although he has resigned himself to the fact he will run second to Nash Rawiller in the Sydney riders’ premiership battle, he is looking to finish the season with a bang. "Joe (Pride) has been good to me so it would be nice to be able to finish the racing year on a winning note for both of us," Brown said. Pride hopes Syreon has plenty of scope for improvement as he is "down" one good horse following the retirement (to stud) of stablemate Bryannbo’s Gift. Bryannbo’s Gift is a six-year-old stallion raced in the same interests as Syreon. Crossbow a chance A highlight of racing at Rosehill this Saturday will be the running of The Rosebud, an important lead-up to the $1 million Golden Rose. Glamour filly Military Rose is a notable absentee this weekend. She’s going straight to Melbourne to be set for the southern spring carnival. Gai Waterhouse will send around promising last start winner Crossbow in the two-year-old feature. "Crossbow is highly talented and should be hard to beat," said Waterhouse’s racing manager Mark Webbey. "It’s going to be a good race but our horse looks very smart." Rosehill trainer Tim Martin will send around talented filly Sasa in the same race. The youngster hasn’t raced since running a close second to Skilled in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in the autumn. |
